Deep rug cleaning: define the work before comparing quotes
The term does not identify one machine, chemical or accepted sequence for every rug. A useful quote explains dry-soil removal, proposed treatment, spot assessment, residue management and drying. Ask which stages are included and which depend on inspection. More water or stronger chemicals do not automatically produce a safer or better result.
Match the scope to the contamination
Tracked grit, greasy soil, a drink spill and pet contamination have different treatment needs. Identify affected areas and whether liquid reached the underside. A rug can need thorough dry-soil removal without tolerating wet washing. Conversely, a surface pass may not address contamination held in the backing. The construction and condition determine the safe limits.
Separate improvement from restoration
Cleaning cannot replace worn fibres, repair a split foundation or guarantee removal of dye damage. Photograph existing faults and ask what may remain visible. Confirm access, floor protection, drying space and when the item can return to use. For a process explanation, see hot-water extraction; for delicate construction, start with the handmade rug guide.
Find the relevant next step
Use the rug care directory to find the guide for your material, method or spill. For an assessment, send photographs, dimensions and the care label.
