Foam rug cleaning: surface treatment and its limits
A foam-based product is applied and worked into the textile according to its instructions, with residue removed by the specified finishing process. The amount of moisture and required equipment vary. The presence of foam is not evidence that a rug is receiving deep rinsing or that the treatment is suitable for delicate fibres.
Check pile, backing and previous products
The proposed agitation must suit the yarns and construction. Ask how the cleaner will avoid catching loops, affecting lustrous fibres or leaving residue in a dense pile. Previous shampoo use should be disclosed because remaining detergent can complicate the result. The manufacturer’s restrictions still apply even when a product is described as gentle.
Set a realistic cleaning objective
A surface maintenance treatment is different from addressing liquid contamination through the backing. Discuss the depth of the problem and whether another method would be more appropriate. Do not add a shop-bought foam before an inspection of a delicate rug. Compare the principles of low-moisture cleaning and a more thorough cleaning assessment rather than choosing by product appearance.
